Ivybridge

Ivybridge is a popular, family-friendly satellite town to Plymouth and a great location for your new home. It’s got an excellent choice of shops, plenty of leisure amenities and a welcoming atmosphere - all part of its recipe for success. In a setting on the southern fringes of the Dartmoor National Park, there’s easy access to the amazing open space of the moors right on the doorstep. It’s also right on the A38 Devon Expressway, South Devon’s main transport route, making it an attractive choice as a base for growing businesses as well as for growing families. Though it's a little bit further, it's as easy to get to Exeter as it is to Plymouth so commuters are well catered for and the train station is a local asset if you prefer not to drive. Head south to the coast through some of South Devon's lovely villages - Ermington, Modbury and Kingsbridge - and you'll be rewarded with some stunning beaches. Totnes and Ashburton are local market towns to put on your 'must visit' list for a day out with friends and family.

Living here

You’ll have a great quality of life here. The town has a well-balanced demographic and there's something for everyone. As well as the shops, takeaways and cafes along Fore Street, there’s shopping at Glanvilles Mill right in the centre and a Tesco Extra just a couple of miles away at Lee Mill. The Watermark is a great community resource, with a library, cafe and facilities for films and theatre productions. Ivybridge Leisure Centre has an indoor and outdoor pool, there’s also a Tennis Club, Health Club & Spa, and Golf Club just on the outskirts, and at Filham Park there are fishing lakes and football pitches.

Getting around

The A38 Devon Expressway is the key road through Devon. It links with the M5 at Exeter for easy travel up to Bristol. It’ll take you into Plymouth in just 15 minutes and then continues into Cornwall via the Saltash Bridge. Ivybridge has its own train station on the South West Railway line, with regular trains to London Paddington taking just over 3 hours, as well as providing a convenient commuting option for Plymouth taking just 15 minutes.

Going to school

Ivybridge has some excellent pre-school and primary schools, and a Montessori nursery school. There’s also the option for children to go to one of the local village primary schools, at Cornwood or Ermington. The Community College has a great reputation and is well-known in Devon as a Sports Academy – it’s one of the first ever specialist sports colleges in the UK.

Enjoying yourself

Ivybridge is in a perfect location for both the Dartmoor National Park and the beaches of South Devon. You can head into the National Park directly from the town by following the River Erme to the tiny hamlet of Harford. From there you can just set out with your map and walking boots. If it’s the coast you want, some of the best sandy beaches are at Mothercombe, Thurlestone and Bigbury-on-Sea. For nightlife, the Barbican in Plymouth is the hot spot!
