Tamworth is one of Staffordshire’s key towns. It’s in a key location too, just off the M6 Toll and the M42, putting your new home on the map as your base, whichever direction you need to go in. If you’ve got Birmingham in your sights, it’s only 18 miles away. All the other main towns of the Midlands are within easy reach and for an escape to the country, the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a short drive to the north.

Living here

As a large town, there are amenities to match. The focal point of the town is the historic centre and in addition you’ve got three retail parks, Ventura, Jolly Sailor and Cardinal Point. They’ve got the leading UK brands, as well as cafés and restaurants. If you want to make a day of it, there are leisure activities there too. The Ankerside Shopping Centre is in the old part of the town and Tamworth Market is held every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday – around 100 stalls to browse.

Getting around

Access to the motorway network is high on the list of convenient reasons to live in Tamworth. All the main routes radiate out from around Birmingham, starting with the M6 Toll on your doorstep. The A5 bypass is the main road running through the town. Birmingham Airport is less than half an hour’s drive, or you can make the connection by train, via Birmingham International Station where there’s a free Air-Rail Link system. There are around 60 trains a day from Tamworth to Birmingham New Street, taking just 22 minutes.

Enjoying yourself

No problem! The Snowdome, a real-snow indoor ski slope, and Drayton Manor Theme Park offer something a bit different. There are plenty of sports and leisure clubs, and south of the town the Kingsbury Water Park is set in 600 acres of countryside. Tamworth Sailing Club uses one of the lakes there and there are other clubs and activities there too. If it’s a city break you’re after, a night out in Birmingham is just the ticket.
