Newbottle is a friendly little town between historic Durham inland and busy Sunderland on the coast. This makes it a popular place to set up a new home and to come back to after a day at work.
Newbottle has some useful local facilities, including a primary school, and its larger neighbours, New Herrington, Hetton-le-Hole and Houghton le Spring, are close by for additional local amenities. A straightforward route on the A690 provides a direct link with Durham about 8 miles away and with Sunderland about 6 miles away. Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne lead the way in the Northeast, making this location a great option if you want to live somewhere that’s a bit quieter yet with easy access to all that you could want in the way of city life, entertainment, education and work opportunities.

Living in Newbottle
Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland and Durham give you three very different cities to choose from for work and play. Compact Durham has all the history and character of a cathedral city. It’s got cobbled streets, a castle that towers above the River Wear and a spectacular cathedral dominating the skyline. Newcastle-upon-Tyne has a different character, hand in hand with a great reputation for its shops and its legendary nightlife. Sunderland is a key industrial city with a share of the Durham Heritage Coast and some lovely beaches. All three are university cities with vibrant student populations.
For time out with the family, the northeast has some great landscapes to explore and its easy to get off the beaten track. You can head for the beach at Seaham, Seaburn or a bit further north, to South Shields for miles of yellow sand. West of Durham, the Durham Dales are beautiful, offering endless space, walking trails and waterfalls.
Newbottle is just off the A690 which links with the A1(M) as well as the A19 – the area’s two main road routes. From Sunderland, you can use the Tyne and Wear Metro network which operates regular services into Newcastle and also runs a service to Newcastle Airport. Durham, Newcastle and Sunderland all have mainline train stations. Buses services are excellent too, operated by Stagecoach in Sunderland, Go North East and Arriva North East.
