Paddock Wood

Paddock Wood is a small family-friendly town with a well-balanced population. It’s an easy drive to Maidstone, Royal Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, and it’s got a train station, making it a great base for your new home, especially if you commute to London. The hop-growing Kent countryside all around it is a wonderful backdrop to come home to after a day at work, and if you don’t have to travel out of town, it’s a lovely setting for your new home and for your family.

Living in Paddock Wood

Getting around

The town is served by a network of B roads - it’s on the B2160 and the B2161 - connecting it with the A228, A264, A21 and A26. Trains to London from Paddock Wood take an average 53 minutes and there are direct services. It’s just 13 miles from the M26, connecting to the M25 to the west and the M20 to the east. Royal Tunbridge Wells is 8 miles away, while Tonbridge and Maidstone are 11 miles away.

Going shopping

As well as plenty of independent shops and the national brand supermarkets, Paddock Wood has got its own department store, Barsleys. It’s a lovely feature amongst the town’s other retail businesses. Most of the shops are on, or close to, Commercial Road so there’s a nice feel to the centre of the town.  Royal Tunbridge Wells is not just a back-up, it’s a wonderful day out for retail therapy and eating out.

Going to school

Paddock Wood has two schools: Paddock Wood Primary School and Mascalls Academy for secondary age students. It’s lovely for students to have home-town schools as well as mixing with pupils from the wider catchment area.

Going out

This is hop-growing country, so needless to say, there’s a great country pub tradition to go with it. You’ll be spoilt for choice in the little villages and hamlets nearby, as well as having your own local favourites too of course. If you head towards the coast, you’ll be in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, dotted with famous country houses such as Scotney Castle and Sissinghurst. Bewl Water is a huge country park and lake offering outdoor activities for all the family.
