Huddersfield

Huddersfield is one of West Yorkshire’s all-round market towns. It’s got a down-to-earth industrial life, a strong community life, a thriving university life and it’s got the outdoor life of the Pennines and the Peak District National Park close-by. A new home here is in one of a group of key towns that are neighbours to Leeds, with great transport links to Manchester, Sheffield and Wakefield, and an important business role to play.

Living in Huddersfield

Well-placed

The M62 runs between Huddersfield and Halifax along its vital route between Liverpool, Manchester and Hull. This east-west route connects you with several other key motorways; the M6 and M60 to the west and the M1 to the east. It’s just over 20 miles to Leeds Bradford Airport and 40 miles to Manchester Airport, and you can reach both by train from Huddersfield station and by bus. There’s a direct train to Manchester Airport and for Leeds Bradford Airport you’d change in Leeds.  Other Northern Line and CrossPennine routes include Stockport and Sheffield, and you can change at Leeds or Manchester Piccadilly for trains to London.

Going to town

Huddersfield offers several shopping centres – the main ones are Kingsgate, which has high street brands, a department store and cafés to take a break in, the atmospheric Victorian Byram Arcade and the Piazza Shopping Centre at the heart of Huddersfield. There are plenty of independent shops, farmers markets and flea markets. For sport and entertainment, the John Smith’s Stadium hosts football and rugby matches, as well as live music events, and the ODEON Huddersfield shows the latest blockbuster films. For a bit of peace and quiet, the Greenhead Park is a lovely central green space for all the family.

Local schools

Having a university, shows that a town means business when it comes to education. There are several secondary schools for your children to progress to; Salendine Nook High School Academy, Newsome Academy, Moor End Academy and the Colne Valley High School. There are two sixth form colleges, Huddersfield New College and Greenhead College. Huddersfield Grammar School is the town’s only independent school.

Days out

A change of scenery is a breath of fresh air and Huddersfield is within day trip reach of the Peak District National Park, the Pennines, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The advantage of a great road network for commuting is that it’s there for leisure too. If you prefer a local city break, a trip to Leeds or Manchester will do the trick.
