Rothwell
Rothwell is a friendly market town just to the south of Leeds. It’s only 6 miles from the city but with the River Aire, the Rothwell Country Park, Springhead Park and the woodland around the Oulton Hall Golf Course on the doorstep, there’s plenty of green space near your new home, both in and around the town. Rothwell is a popular town with young families, professionals and people stepping back from working life who want to be close to city amenities. The friendly community feel here is a pretty good reason to make Rothwell your home. It’s got some lovely independent shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, as well the usual range of supermarkets. With parks for children to play in, the Iveridge Health Club for some time to yourself and the Rothwell Leisure Centre for all the family, the town is really well served. Leeds and Wakefield are an easy trip away for high street shopping and a day out.
Getting around
Rothwell has got easy access to the M1, M62 and A1(M) so it’s a great location and very well connected. The A639 Pontefract Road is the direct route into Leeds, taking about 25 minutes and the M621 is an alternative route. Trains from Woodlesford Station into Leeds city centre take just 9 minutes and run every half an hour. First Bus service No 9 takes you into the city too.
Going to school
There’s a wide choice of primary education in Rothwell and the co-educational secondary school for the town is Royds Academy. For further and higher education, vocational and adult learning courses, Leeds City College has a campus in Rothwell.
Out and about
If you like the great outdoors, there’s plenty to keep you happy close to home. Woodlesford Lock on the Aire & Calder Canal is a lovely place for a walk or bike ride. Look out for the Gruffalo! You can actually ride along the tow path all the way into Leeds if you feel energetic enough. The Water Haigh Country Park is a great diversion for your walk along the canal. St Aiden’s RSPB site is another popular local site, and you don’t have to be a birdwatcher to enjoy this wide-open space. If you prefer the great indoors, Leeds will not disappoint you with entertainment and nightlife.
