Bus shelter boost for Exning

19 June 2024

Passengers will be able to shelter from the elements as they wait for their bus in Exning thanks to the parish council and five-star housebuilder Charles Church.

Exning Parish Council applied to the developer, who are working on Phase 2 of the new community, off Burwell Road, to help with funding for a new bus shelter close to the new Chancery Park development.

They responded with a grant of £4,000, funded through the Community Champions scheme run by parent company Persimmon Homes Suffolk.

The funding means work can start on the planned bus stop, and it will be in place in coming months,

Cllr Kathryn Schosland, Vice Chair of Exning Parish Council, said: “We are very appreciative of the support of Persimmon in enabling the parish council to provide this much-needed bus shelter for the residents of Exning.”

Cllr Jon London, of West Suffolk Council, added: “An increasing number of school pupils are looking to schools in Soham and Bottisham and are using this bus stop each morning, especially as our community continues to grow.

“By providing this shelter we can help protect them from the sun, wind and rain and improve that experience for them. We are grateful to Persimmon for this support.”

Lucy Woodhall, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes Suffolk, said: “We want to encourage sustainable travel around all of our new developments and supporting the upgrade of the existing infrastructure will help encourage residents to use public transport and reduce their car journeys.

“The parish council has been committed to providing this bus shelter for the residents of Chancery Park and beyond and we are delighted to have been able to offer this grant to ensure they can deliver this.”
