It's a family affair at the Links
27 July 2015
Sometimes it can feel as though you don’t truly get to know your work colleagues, despite spending eight hours a day together.
But that’s certainly not the case at Charles Church West Wales’ development in Llanelli, where blood really is thicker than mortar.
For there are two sets of families working side by side at The Links. Site manager Aubrey Pratt is joined at the development by his daughter, trainee sales adviser Gemma Williams, while sales adviser Allison Davies is never too far from her son Jack Davies, a trainee site manager.
Spending so much time together would test some relationships – but the Links quartet insist that they are able to separate work from family life.
Gemma, 19 and of Llanelli, has been with Charles Church for three months after leaving college.
She said: “It’s a bit strange that everyone knows my dad as he’s been with the company so long. I remember when I was a child and my dad worked weekends, he used to take me into his office.
I always wanted to work in the industry and was just waiting for the opportunity. I’m really enjoying it and hope this is the start of a long career.”
Aubrey, 49 and of Kidwelly, has worked for Charles Church and the sister company, Persimmon Homes, for 16 years. He told Gemma about the opening for a trainee sales adviser.
Aubrey said: “We don’t see each other too much in the day as she’s busy in the marketing suite. She tries to talk work when we meet up but I’m keen to change the subject.
I’m just pleased to see her doing well.”
Allison is happy to be working closely with her son, Jack. And what’s more, her daughter Kloe Davies, 17, also recently started with Persimmon, albeit at a different site.
Allison, 48, of Neath, said: “Jack and I have always been close so working together is no problem.
It’s good because it means he knows a little about things from my side of the business as well as his own.
I’ve been with Charles Church and Persimmon for 16 years and I love my job. It’s obviously rubbed off on my children with two out of three following in my footsteps.”
Jack, 21, started in the construction industry as an apprentice carpenter working with a contractor on Persimmon sites. He was qualified for two years before applying for the trainee site manager position and is now working under Aubrey’s guidance.
The Links is an exciting new collection of two, three, four and five bedroom homes perfectly located in beautiful countryside.
Prices at The Links start from £119,995 for a two bedroom semi-detached The Burry style property.
There are initiatives available to help house hunters secure their dream move, including the Home Change scheme. Charles Church will use all of its expertise and contacts to help people sell their current homes. The house builder will arrange for a valuation before agreeing a price with the seller and marketing the property on their behalf. This means there are no estate agent fees to pay, reducing the stress of moving.
