A schoolgirl who was desperate to see a new play area open close to her Newbury home has cut the ribbon to the park – which was named in her honour.
Lyra’s Park at our Charles Church Woodlark Place development in Greenham, West Berkshire was officially opened during the school summer holidays to the delight of children living on and around the new development.
The ribbon was cut by Lyra Henri, age 10, who had watched in anticipation as the park was created, keen to be able to play on the monkey bars, balance beams and slide.
Lyra said:
“I didn’t have a play area close to my house and if we wanted to go to the park we had to get in the car and drive, so when I discovered Charles Church were building one so close to home I was ecstatic.
“I visited the site regularly and spoke to the builders to see when it would be open.”
Recognising Lyra’s interest and enthusiasm, Managing Director of Charles Church Thames Valley, Dan Castle decided to officially name the park in her honour.
Commenting on the park Managing Director of Charles Church Thames Valley, Dan Castle said:
“Opening a play park is always a pivotal moment in a development. It provides a focal point for the new residents and offers an important new amenity for the existing community.
“We are delighted to open this park today and to see Lyra getting to explore the equipment she so eagerly awaited.”
Cllr Phil Barnett, West Berkshire Councillor for Newbury Greenham, helped Lyra open the park and said:
“What a privilege it is to be here today for the opening and to see so many children outside playing together here.
“We have watched as this development has been built and it is amazing to see it now becoming a part of our community.”
Guests celebrated with ice creams provided by Charles Church.
