Making a house into a home

An East Anglian Instagrammer has gained thousands of followers by showing how she has made her new build Charles Church house into a stunning and stylish home.
First time buyer Abbie Lyon – whose Norfolk property features on the social media site under the profile @no6homex – moved into the house with her partner Josh just before Christmas.
Over the past 10 months the couple have transformed their blank canvas into a charming home filled with warm neutral tones and subtle splashes of colour.
The 22-year-old dental nurse explained the inspiration behind her interiors approach:
“I definitely get my inspiration from different home accounts on Instagram but I have always loved interior design and couldn't wait to get my own house one day,” she said.
“I would describe my style as neutral and simple. I chose to have a neutral colour scheme as it makes it feel bright and airy and I don't like clutter, so the house decor is minimal.
“My favourite room is definitely the kitchen/diner! We love hosting for our family and friends and having an open plan space makes it more sociable. I was really happy with the kitchen Select Options we chose as the wooden worktops are a wonderful feature in the room.”
As well as the spacious dining kitchen, the Sandringham style house boasts a separate living room, three bedrooms, an en suite and a family bathroom.
“We chose this house as we loved the location, the open plan layout and also that is was a new build so there was no work needed to be done!” said Abbie. “Also, we were able to pick all the options of what we wanted in the house and it was brilliant to see our thoughts come to life.”
A key feature of Abbie’s design flair is the thoughtful use of indoor plants and fresh flowers, bringing a touch of nature throughout her home, and the creation of an ‘outdoor room’ in the garden.
“The best thing we have done since moving into our home would be extending the garden and finishing it off for the start of summer,” she said. “Our plot had a longer driveway than we needed, so we decided to use part of it as a patio area.
“The garden was our lockdown project and with all the hot weather it definitely helped us getting through furlough!”
Abbie also likes to show her followers that it doesn’t cost a fortune to style a beautiful home, saying: “Some of my favourite shops to go to for interior accessories are Next Home, Sainsburys Home, Dunelm & The Range. You don’t always have to spend a lot, just keep an eye out for lovely accessories.”
