Mansion transformation taking shape

The redevelopment of Ulverston landmark Stone Cross Mansion has reached a key milestone, with the installation of a replica staircase.

Charles Church has undertaken the transformation of the derelict building into 19 luxury apartments, whilst also keeping a close eye on the conservation and restoration of the historic house.

Andrew Clarke, project manager for Charles Church Lancashire, said: “Stone Cross Mansion is such an important local landmark and we are honoured to be bringing the house and its grounds back to life.”

“We are working with local craftsmen and materials suppliers to ensure every listed architectural feature is sensitively protected and restored to its former glory.”

“The original staircase in the building was removed several years ago, but we collaborated with specialist joiners to create a replacement following its design. As a central feature in the magnificent hallway, the new staircase is simply stunning.”

At a cost of more than £4million, the project has also required the team to painstakingly refurbish every part of the Grade II Listed building, from its exterior stonework and roof to the elaborate plasterwork and panelling of its grand interior.

The Stone Cross Mansion development includes 45 four and five bedroom executive homes priced from £314,995 as well as the 19 two and three bedroom apartments and one gatehouse in the renovated mansion block, which will be named Kennedy Place, and released for sale later in the year.

The marketing suite and show home are open Thursday to Monday from 11am to 6pm.
