Olympic medallist opens Charles Church show home in Wynyard

The Kingsand show home at The Oaks at Wynyard Estate was opened by Team GB athlete Chelsie Giles, who took home bronze for judo in the Tokyo Olympics, at a launch event that provided family fun and inspirational discussion.

The show home opening included hot food provided by a local catering company, lawn games for all the family enjoy, and time to meet and speak to Chelsie, who is competing in her second Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

Chelsie later shared her thoughts on the Wynyard Estate development, saying: “It’s really nice, it’s open and spacious, and the surrounding area looks really nice. I would love to explore around here!”

On the Kingsand show home, Chelsie said “I loved the French doors at the back, it allows you to have guests over and host parties, with the open space in the garden. And the kitchen is just gorgeous.”

“I would definitely love to have a home like this, and maybe in the future one day I will!”

After taking a tour round the development and show home, including the room she had designed, Chelsie sat down with the sales team to discuss her love of judo.

“I was 8 years old when I started and I’ve been full time for nearly 10 years now,” she said.

“I think it’s a great sport, you don’t have to take it up competitively, but as a sport in general you learn respect, discipline, and I made a lot of friends. I built confidence – I was very quiet at school – and it brought me out of my shell, it made me who I am today.”

Chelsie also expressed her feelings in the lead up to Paris 2024: “Judo’s been my passion since such a young age, and my goal has always been to be an Olympic champion. That’s my biggest motivation.”

“I’m really excited for Paris. We’ve had the opportunity to go over and see the GB house, where we’ll have our meals and everything. You start to get nervous, you start to get excited, but I’m really looking forward to it all.”
