Sudbury children get creative
22 November 2010
As part of Charles Church’s commitment to forging links with the local community, the company’s sales adviser at the prestigious Kings Park development in Great Cornard, Sudbury, contacted Pot Kiln Primary School and challenged the pupils to design and make their very own crown. The children jumped at the chance and now the deserving winner is being treated like royalty at the development.
Charles Church had lots of entries from the pupils from the primary school, who ranged from ages five to nine years and the sales adviser at Kings Park, Ann Jackson, and site manager Mike Suttenwood chose eight year old Jacob Miculob as the overall winner.
She states: “We take our role in the communities we build in very seriously and always strive to forge closer relationships with local schools. We thought it would be a great idea to launch a crown designing competition with the children, which has been quite a talking point within the company.
“The school chose the top ten crowns and their designers were invited to a small event at the showhome for the short listed entrants to show off their fantastic and imaginative crowns. This made judging a very difficult task and I’d like to thank each and every one of them for their enthusiasm and creativity. Congratulations to our winner Jacob though as his entry really stood out as the crown jewel of the entries.”
Jacob received £20 of gift vouchers from Charles Church while nine year old Charley Richardson, who came runner up also received £10 of vouchers. All the children who visited the Kings Park development received a token gift for taking part. As a thank you to Pot Kiln Primary School, Charles Church presented them with a voucher for £200 towards new art equipment.
Jill Grout, class teacher of Pot Kiln Primary School, comments: “This was a great activity for the children as it was a nice opportunity for the pupils to do something that was fun and educational at the same time.”
