The only way is grey

First time homeowner Charlotte has taken her inspiration from the beautiful interiors featured on Instagram and Pinterest to create her perfect, on-trend pad in Colchester.
@Thegreypad is a stunning example of a palette that combines shades of grey with neutral tones. The result is an immaculate yet calm and relaxing backdrop that is complemented by Charlotte’s modern furniture and panelling.
Communications Manager, Charlotte, her partner Alex and Barney the cocker spaniel moved into the new Trafalgar, two-bedroom home in Colchester in June 2019. The couple bought off-plan when the house was just a couple of bricks high which meant that they could choose from the range of upgrades and options. “We were able to put our own stamp on an empty shell choosing the kitchen cupboards and worktop, the tile designs in all 3 bathrooms and opted for upgraded integrated appliances, towel radiators, an extra shower and extra plug sockets.”
The couple felt disheartened after viewing other new-build developments, they were unimpressed with the size and layout of the houses saying they were tiny until they visited a friend’s new Charles Church house on the development and fell in love. Their two-bed was the perfect size for them so they immediately contacted the sales team. It had everything they wanted - a two-bed detached house with a driveway and a big garden. “The design of the Trafalgar works well for us and our lifestyle. The kitchen diner has French doors which open up onto our garden patio, and the living room is separate to the kitchen diner which I love as it means I can shut the door when my partner attempts to cook! It has three bathrooms which is fab as we both have one each upstairs - so Alex can’t complain about me leaving my makeup and fake tan out and I can’t moan about him leaving the toilet seat up and his towel on the floor.”
Charlotte tells us that they watched the house being built and managed to get a few sneak peaks of the inside. She said it was amazing watching their home take shape and wanted to document the Trafalgar journey on Instagram. “Right now my favourite feature would have to be our panelled wall in the kitchen diner. I love the panelling trend which everyone is doing at the moment so I’m really happy to have incorporated it within our home. We bought the wood, glue, primer and paint and got stuck in. It was surprisingly easy to do and I still love it every time I look at it! It transforms the room completely. Changing up the interior is easy, with coloured accessories to neutral rooms, I know I can switch them up whenever I feel like it. My taste changes all the time – I’m lucky that I enjoy re-decorating and buying new accessories to change the design and feel of our rooms."
“What I would say about the perfect homes you see on social media is that it’s really important that nobody compares their home to these photos - the photos aren’t reality - nobody will show you their muddy floors, dirty dishes and unmade bed, but it is great for ideas and inspiration. We can’t wait for our second Christmas in our home. This year I’ll be going for a white and silver theme, keeping it neutral to match our home decor. Last year I added some blush pink baubles as I had pink cushions in the living room, but now we have navy cushions so I might buy some navy baubles to match. I’ll have a search for some tree decor inspiration to help me decide.”
