The A1(M) is the North East’s key motorway route. It passes just to the west of Chilton Moor, and you can join it at either Junction 62 or 63 – both under 5 miles away. Newcastle upon Tyne is 15 miles away, Durham is 8 miles away and Middlesbrough to the south is 30 miles away. The nearest train station is at Chester le Street, just under 5 miles away. From there you can pick up services on the East Coast Main Line between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh Waverley. Newcastle’s International Airport is 21 miles to the north, taking around half an hour by car.

Chilton has a small convenience store, a pizza takeaway and a service station, and between them, the local towns of Houghton le Spring and Hetton le Hole, have a good range of shops and supermarkets for all your day-to-day needs. There’s a really large shopping outlet at Dalton Park, Seaham for something special and for a day out with friends, Durham is ideal for its independent shops and excellent markets, and Newcastle has a buzzing city centre for all the high street brands.
