Chilton Moor

Chilton Moor is a small village on the edge of great things. It’s on the border between County Durham and Tyne & Wear. It’s more or less midway between the historic city of Durham and the port city of Sunderland and it’s an ideal location for a new home if you need to get to Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead.
With Junctions 62 and 63 of the A1(M) an easy drive away, Chilton Moor is well-placed and well-connected for commuters, family days out and city trips. Living here gives you easy access to all the market town of Houghton le Spring for local shops and services, less than two miles away.

Living in Chilton Moor

Easy to get out and about

The A1(M) is the North East’s key motorway route. It passes just to the west of Chilton Moor, and you can join it at either Junction 62 or 63 – both under 5 miles away. Newcastle upon Tyne is 15 miles away, Durham is 8 miles away and Middlesbrough to the south is 30 miles away. The nearest train station is at Chester le Street, just under 5 miles away. From there you can pick up services on the East Coast Main Line between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh Waverley. Newcastle’s International Airport is 21 miles to the north, taking around half an hour by car.

Easy to get to the shops

Chilton has a small convenience store, a pizza takeaway and a service station, and between them, the local towns of Houghton le Spring and Hetton le Hole, have a good range of shops and supermarkets for all your day-to-day needs. There’s a really large shopping outlet at Dalton Park, Seaham for something special and for a day out with friends, Durham is ideal for its independent shops and excellent markets, and Newcastle has a buzzing city centre for all the high street brands.

Easy to enjoy a day out

Days out on the Durham Heritage Coast or in the Durham Dales are a must from a base here in Chilton Moor. This stretch of the coastline is a mix of sandy beaches, rocky coves, dunes and cliffs. The Dales lead gently up to the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – a wild and beautiful landscape to blow the cobwebs away.
