Getting around
West Calder is on the A71 route between Edinburgh and Glasgow. It’s a good alternative to the M8 a few miles to the north. It only takes 35 minutes to get to Edinburgh by train and just under an hour to get to Glasgow. For holiday or business travel, Edinburgh Airport is 15 miles away, taking just under half an hour by car.

There’s a really good choice of primary schools, and West Calder High School has a fabulous brand-new, purpose-built campus.

It won’t be hard to entertain children here. You’ve got the Five Sisters Zoo, two indoor play centres - the Overboard Softplay Centre (the largest in West Lothian) and the Pitstop Softplay Centre. Grown-ups won’t feel left out – there’s a golf course on hand and for the great outdoors, you’ve got the Harperrig Reservoir and East Cairns Hill, the Stoneyburn Medal Route which takes in views of the local landmark, The Five Sisters, and a bit further afield the Pentland Hills Regional Park. Day trips into Edinburgh and Glasgow go without saying, for history, culture, and a night out.
