Living in Livingston

Well connected

The M4 passes the town on its way between Edinburgh and Glasgow, with the A899 link to the motorway at Junction 3. It takes about 40 minutes to drive into central Edinburgh and about the same to Glasgow even though it’s further. Commuting by train is a great option with the journey time from Livingston to Edinburgh Waverley station at just under half an hour and to Glasgow Central around an hour. Edinburgh Airport is just 10 miles away and Glasgow Airport is 40 miles away, between them giving you plenty of home and away destinations.

Retail and recreation

Livingston has become a go-to place for luxury shopping at the town’s Designer Outlet. It includes a cinema complex, cafés, restaurants and bars. There’s even an indoor Adventure Golf venue to keep the children happy. The Centre, the Craigshill Shopping Mall, all the main national supermarket brands and the shops on Main Street in the original Livingston Village, all add to a thriving retail atmosphere here. The family-friendly new town plan included outside space, parks and leisure facilities, and amongst these are the Almond Valley Heritage Centre, the Almondell & Calderwood Country Park, the Eilburns Park and the Livingston Skatepark. There’s plenty more to keep you active, especially in the world of golf. Livingston adds its own Deer Park Golf and Country Park to several other courses in the area.

Going to school

A town of this size has plenty of options for your children’s education. As well as the range of primary schools, the Inveralmond Community High School, Deans Community High School and St Margaret’s Academy offer secondary education.
